Eclectic is a mobile app targeted at adults in Singapore ranging from fresh grads to seasoned working professionals. Basically, you’re the one running the show at home, managing groceries, wondering what to eat later, getting annoyed at the weather, looking for places to hang out with your aging friends. At the same time, you’re wondering what’s next for your career and life goals. You realise how the world actually works and maybe lost some faith in some humans, as much as how some of your male friends start losing some of their hair.

Whether you’re bald, bored or bawled, Eclectic is here to be your useful assistant for your daily life, bringing you SG-related information that matter to you most into one place. It’s not easy being a superhuman juggling so many things in life, so here’s a superapp for you!

Eclectic works by running the latest local / on-device AI models, privately in your phone, to match and present information to you that are likely to help you out with life’s responsibilities. Your job is simply to use it as a personal journal - keep track of what you’ve done, bought and tried, from tasks at work to wine and dine. Make it your happy place and your quiet zone.

From it, Eclectic will help to figure out:

• Where to go, what to eat, how the weather affects it.
• What to buy, what to try, everything under the SG sky.
• What to do, why do it and how to get tough things going.

It has a stretch goal of keeping you in optimal condition (i.e. contended, focused, in control of your life). 

Just like how AI makes software engineers far more productive than those who don’t use AI, it is inevitable that people who can use AI to make their daily lives more efficient would fare better. You get things done cheaper-better-faster and have more time and space to enjoy with your loved ones, simply because you know more and have a better system to get things done. Instead of recommendation systems for doom scrolling, you get recommendations relevant to improving your daily lives.

While the most common way most people interact with AI is through a chat application running in the cloud, it is not the only way. On-device / Edge AI, i.e. running smaller AI models directly on your device without relying on cloud infrastructure, is an emerging area that is only going to become more exciting in the coming years. While your phone is certainly not as powerful as a GPU server, several interesting advancements have made on-device AI practically usable for many real-world use cases. One area where this can be particularly impactful is personal productivity, where AI can assist you for daily routines, directly on your device without compromising your privacy. Eclectic is one way to achieve this.

There is a particular emphasis on creating local solutions (as in tailored to the Singaporean context) as no one else is going to do it for us. AI is undoubtedly transformational but it comes with biases that have to be patched and many last-mile developments have to be done to ensure that people are not left out. Again, Eclectic is one way to achieve this and hopefully this inspires more local initiatives in the same vein.

With plenty of careful planning and engineering. The principle will always be to provide a free and privacy-first experience for all users of this app. Very reluctant to introduce ads ; if it has to happen, it will be siloed and as discreet as possible. Let's see.

No. Eclectic is designed to work without an account. Your personal lists, notes and goals are stored locally on your device by default.

No. Your personal content stays on your device by default. OCR and AI features run on-device, so your quotes and notes are not sent to any remote AI service. There are requests made to pull information from APIs, but these requests do not include your personal data.

While personal content is never sent out, Google's ML Kit could transmit some non-personal data to Google in the following ways: (i) Performance metrics: ML Kit sends usage and performance metrics about how the APIs function within the app to Google. (ii) Device and app info: SDKs collect basic app and device details for diagnostics and analytics. (iii) Server communication: APIs occasionally contact Google servers to download bug fixes, updated models, or hardware information.

Play store requirements require apps with generative AI to provide a way to flag inappropriate content. If you submit this Google form, the input to the model, generated content, type of operation (e.g. category suggestion) and model type will be prefilled to allow targetted remediations. These are very unlikely to contain any personal data but you may remove any info you consider sensitive. Submitting the form is entirely optional.

The most efficient way (and the default set in the app) is to use ML Kit, which works on most modern smartphones (Android 5.0 and above, iOS 15.5 and above). This should not require any setup nor additional storage space. Text generation features through ML Kit are available for a smaller subset of devices.

Alternatively, you may choose to download other models through the 'Manage local models' screen found in the Hamburger menu of the app. These models generally require about 4-7GB of storage space depending on the specific model you choose, so make sure you have enough free space on your device before downloading them. Most models would take about 3-10s for simple queries (e.g. categories) but it could takes about a minute in the worst-case scenario for more complex queries like filling up all fields.

There are 2 key differences: (i) Raw information about weather e.g. WBGT Temp, Humidity, etc. are obtained from NEA's Realtime Weather Readings and other related endpoints. You will find that most, if not all, of the readings will match with what they show on their website / app. What Eclectic does is to allow you to view the data subset most relevant to you once you choose a location or enter a postal code and we present them in a user-friendly format. (ii) Rain predictions are generated based on our own models. It offers a 10-mins heads-up, which is more granular and localised compared to the broader 2-hour forecasts provided by NEA.

As of mid September 2026, CSI is about 0.5 which is modest, but we expect this to get better over the coming months as it becomes feasible to use better models.

Yes. Camera access is only needed for optional quote OCR, and notifications are only used for reminders you enable. You can keep using the rest of the app without either permission.

You can edit or delete content in the app, use its data-management controls under settings, or clear the app’s data and uninstall it through your device settings. Please export anything important first, because locally deleted content practically cannot be recovered.
